About Tech Behind Things
How the ordinary machinery actually works
Last updated August 13, 2026
Tech Behind Things is an independent publication about devices and everything next to it. It exists because the useful version of this subject is usually the one nobody has time to write.
Our house style is technical but unintimidating, allergic to hype. We would rather publish one piece that holds up than five that fill a schedule.
What we cover
The site is organised into 6 sections:
- Devices — Phones, laptops, watches and what is actually inside them.
- Networks — Wi-Fi, cellular, cables and the route your packets really take.
- Power & Batteries — Charging, chemistry, heat and why capacity fades.
- Software — Operating systems, updates, formats and the logic underneath the interface.
- Home Tech — Appliances, sensors, smart home kit and the standards fighting over your house.
- Data & Privacy — Tracking, encryption, telemetry and who gets to see what.
Who writes it
Every article carries a named writer with a profile page, and nothing is published anonymously. You can see the full list on our writers page.
How it is funded
Advertising pays for this site. It does not buy coverage, placement or a favourable word, and our editorial policy sets out exactly how that separation works.
